School Tours at Eagle Mills…there’s a fun-loving child in all of us

As I have been preparing myself for my 15th season here at Eagle Mills, I once again am reminded of what a fortunate life I live.  OK, this mid-age guy with the bald head and somewhat robust body may look like he’s slowing down…but the fun-loving child in me is still alive!

Today we hosted the first graders from the R.J. McNulty Academy in Amsterdam for our first school tour of the season.  We love family fun, but the action is more intense when the school’s bring a field trip here.

Mrs. Houtz, Mrs. Fedullo and Miss Del Santo were accompanied by 59 of the cutest first graders in upstate NY, whose eyes sparkled as they readied themselves to ‘flearn’.  That’s a word we coined here as I realized there was no reason why children couldn’t have fun and learn AND learn and have fun at the same time.  Thus the word FLEARN.  I’m thinking about submitting the word to Webster’s Dictionary.

After working diligently over the last several months, our new Screamin’ Eagle Slide was ready for the group.  Ed Korona, one of the brave Dad’s who accompanied his son on the trip, was really impressed with the slide.  He couldn’t keep his son, Hunter, and friend Dominic Foglen from the action.  After the classes finished their gem stone mining, nature discovery train ride and kidsville/tinytown activities, I took a very scientific survey of these great first graders.  Questioning their experience on the Screamin’ Eagle Slide, it was great to hear such insight from young minds.  Many had ideas to make the fun even better.  Thank you, my friends from McNulty!

The Rubber Ducky Derby was a big hit, too, with Kristal Altamirano and Aaliyah VanAllen competing against Hunter Korona and Dominic Foglen.  I’m not sure who came in first, but it really didn’t matter.  What matters most to me is to see that bright, shining smile on the faces of young and old alike…as we experienced another day of outdoor fun with the fine folks of McNulty Academy, here at Eagle Mills in upstate New York.

Yes…life is good!
